FROM JIM ROBISON:
The Volvo 142 sputtered and died on stage 3, requiring a tow back to the service area and earning us our first DNF. With a lot of help from other teams, we discovered that the coil was overheating, but would function properly if allowed to cool down. Our solution was to tie a wet shop rag around the coil and allow evaporation to disperse the heat. We kept the rag wet with frequent soakings during the service breaks. With our new water-cooled coil, we were to complete the remaining stages as fun runs. Though the stages were a joy to run, a lot of our satisfaction came from overcoming the obstacle with a creative solution. Jim, Michael & Elizabeth Robison
